FLOW is an intrinsic feeling of joy we express by tapping into a vast reservoir of confidence from performing something so well practised that the observer watches in awe at your mastery.

A few years ago I was asked by a combat military unit in the NW of the UK to deliver a workshop on FLOW. The workshop was well received, and I was provided with great feedback. I decided I could help leaders go from feeling lost and struggling to being in FLOW and finding value in their life without massive change by writing the book and online course.

Well, you become so practised in what you do leading to MASTERY by being committed to improvement.

For this reason I created the FLOW Learning Cycle often referred to as the RRRREF model as RRRREF is an acronym for the following.

R – Reflect on what you feel passionate about.

R – Resolve to practise and improve on the move.

R – Refocus – learn to practise dropping the bad and keeping the good.

R – Reset – keep walking it through in your head.

E – Evolve – keep practising until the rhythm feels right.

F – FLOW – Respond without consciously thinking.

The method involves routines and patterns as they take up such a large proportion of our lives. Take for instance the daily routine you follow when you wake in the morning and take a shower, clean your teeth, and have a coffee. It likely follows the same pattern daily. My book and workshop follow the same principles by building routines that support your self-development.

I purposely designed my online course and book to reawaken away of learning we seem to be moving away from, here in the 21^st century, given our sedentary lifestyles of sitting whilst at work and at home. Find your FLOW. Take the Path of Mastery consist of non-intuitive movement simultaneously of all limbs at the same time. It is not so much physically challenging but mentally, emotionally, and physically demanding from the perspective of coordination

When you first learnt to walk no one gave you a diagram or explanation sheet you adjusted whilst on the move by at first failing but being prepared to improve. This is a road map of self-development and FLOW. Hence, the reawakening process.

Because you are making decisions to improve on the move without having to stop to consciously think. Creating patterns that support your passion reduces the energy required to function as the subconscious mind level. Should you be thrown a curve ball or experience external stimuli requiring a response which stresses you, you have more capacity of energy to respond. You are also used to making decisions on the move as the practise is about improvement without stopping hence you are practised at building a decision-making muscle.

Integrated knowledge comes from moving your body and learning through experience. It is not new, but we seem to use the method less and less. Take for instance trying to recall a mobile No and for the life of you your mind is not cooperating. You then move your fingers on the keypad, and they follow a pattern. This is the power of patterns and the way they assist us to focus, recall and act which is of course directly attributable to leadership. It also confirms that it so much easier to focus when the body is moving. It is the yin & yang principle of balance and whole.

By adding additional elements to a routine, taking a routine apart and putting it back together on the move with a view to improve if it fails be prepared to unpack and reassemble again. This is to improve in FLOW. It is also solution based which again is attributable to leadership.

If you have passion for your subject yes you will. But some people may confuse boredom or frustration with the challenge of Finding FLOW. Boredom is caused by not challenging yourself enough and so you need more improvement. Frustration comes from the challenge maybe being too difficult. Experience & practise will help you break through your barriers you place upon yourself. Above, all what I enjoy may be not what you enjoy and that is the major principle of FLOW – enjoyment. I often associate it with being in love the first time. You are excited and you want to share your joy in life – welcome to FLOW.
